guys i am going to make this general seeing that i don't know alot about how this works. If i wanted to dual my truck out what should i buy? i know i want one more magnaflow muffler but what about this y-pipe business or H pipes. Use one cat or keep the factory 2. Should i go 3 inch exhaust if i do how will the sound change. Sorry to ask so many questions just need some infomation, thank u
True dual- a pipe from each manifold or header with its own muffler and tip. An X or H pipe goes after the headers and connects the 2 pipes, balancing the exhaust flow and generally mellowing the tone. Keeping the 2 pipes seperate usually gives a harsher tone.
Bigger pipes = deeper tone. More pipe after the muffler/s will also give the same thing.
A Y pipe connects the headers/manifolds into a single pipe. You can split the single into duals further down the system and still have dual tips.
Obviously if you only have 1 cat you cant do a true dual setup. Just dual it after the muffler.
What kind of truck/engine do you have and what are you looking for in an exhaust system? Sound? Performance? Both?
ok 2005 f150 4.6 kn77 series CAI, EFANS, Edge evo, magnaflow muffler connected to stock everything else. thanks for the information that will be very helpful. if you have any other advice please just post it thanks.
Duals and single can flow the same. One is not better than the other, all things being equal. The only real difference is that duals are more expensive since you need to buy twice the pipe, and 2 mufflers. And of course duals are heavier too. The advantage is usually a sound that a single setup cant match. Dont let anyone tell you that one will make more power or torque than the other.
IMO, what you have is fine but you could probably make good use of a single pipe thats one size bigger than stock. Especially if you plan on any more mods in the future. Just get another Magnaflow muffler thats one size bigger and if you want the dual look just split it after the muffler. Can be done pretty cheap. Make sure the pipe is mandrel bent or you are masting your time.
