Turbo wind (again)
Al, up here in Canada. I have a 2006 F350 6.0L PSD. CC short box
Just started a few weeks ago (at least I think so). When driving around town, with acceleration to 50kms, the turbo will go up to 20psi. On he way down (de-acceleration) while passing through 10PSI or so, I can hear a fairly loud turbine winding down (kind of like when you shut down a jet engine. I used to fly in the RCAF and it really reminds me of that). I took the truck to the dealer and they found TSB 05-21-9. They did their fix with the EGR valve and gaskets and gave the truck back to me. No changes on the whistle down. (I'm putting my money on a bad bearing in the fan assembly. What do you guys think?) Now, after the gasket fix, I have a noice coming from the center of the dash board as if I have the heater fans turned on (while pressing on the gas). But this happens with all the fans turned off. It is almost as if I can hear an air leak coming from the other side of the firewall. I don't know if it is all in my head (getting old). The truck has only 34k kms on it and is warrantied for another 4 years and 90k. So no worries there.
I have had a lot of bad luck with this truck. 3 major oil leaks. Tranny pulled out 3 times to fix the oil leaks. Front brake callipers came appart. Windshield leaked water in the electronic compartment. Seals on passenger side had to be change due to water coming in and it goes on. I'm optimistic that enventually I will have a good truck, once these problems are all fixed. The service staff at my dealer are great people and they have helped as much as they could. I trust that between them and me (and maybe some of you), we will turn, this otherwise strong truck into a good reliable machine. I have thought about trading it in. But this one is paid for and I would have to get into payments, which I don't want to do. Cheers and thanks to all for this great forum. Makes one feels a lot better.
Me again. Just came back from the dealer. Turns out that fan noise from the center dash board, was exhaust. I could smell exhaust when turning on the AC or the blower fan. They were red faced and kept the truck. Something didn't get put together the right way, that's for sure... I'll keep you info'd when I get it back....Cheers ....Al
