Trailer tires

On the new to me car hauler trailer I'm using, the tires and rims are new, but I'm concerned with weight ratings.

They look to be light truck tires, max weight rating at max pressure is 1,352 per tire.

I don't know much, but that doesn't sound like enough.

Am I over thinking it?

Do I need to run these at max pressure for top load performance?

I'm supposed to pick up a motor/tranny'tcase less chassis this weekend.

The trailer is a open deck, I figure total load with trailer included would be around 4-5k.

Should I run by TSC and pickup some tire/rim combo jobs that fit the trailer to be on the safe side?

I hate to spend the cash if I really don't need to.

Thanks for any advise.

Does not sound good to me. First, I don't want anything but trailer tires on a trailer.

It's a twin axle right? So 4 tires x 1,352 = 5,408# max. Most cars plus the trailer are going to be pushing that limit. What's the load limit on the trailer rating plate? Your tires and wheels need to at least match that rating.

Thanks Bill.

It has no rating plate.

Twin axle, brakes on both, DOT light approved, passed safety inspection, but I believe the older gentlemen who used it previous just thought a "tire is a tire".

The rims are bolt pattern 5x4.5, any way to tell what I should be after at someplace like TSC?

Not many options where I live, I figure what they have should work fine since they sell traliers and trailer parts. I think they are 15" rims IIRC.

I suppose I could take the size on there, then purchase appropriate trailer tires that size?

I believe the axles to be 3.5k axles.

Thanks

I run 225/75/15s on my trailers, just standard car tires are 1874lbs each and they hold up good
235/75-15 is a little over 2000lb per tire

I never run trailer tires because of expense and they don't last any longer

I just bought a set of LT 235-75x15 6 ply tires for my cargo trailer the specs on the side of the tire state cold, single 1985# @ 50 psi. I have a trailer thats GCW is 3500# I ran passenger car tires on it for years. P215-75x15. never had any trouble. Since I was buying tires I figured I would go with LT Truck Tires. Since I run this trailer at max or over.

Nice article, but in my opinion a little bit of BS. I run Load E 10 ply tires on my toy hauler and it tracks with less sway than it ever had with the stock ST pieces of junk tires! Maybe the article is more true with 6 ply or 8 ply tires, but my 10 ply are like rocks and they tow great, I keep them at 70 psi.... I will never go back to ST tires ever again on my hauler!

I double checked last night, I already forgot the size, although they are 14 inch.

They are rate for 1532 per tire also, I had my first number mixed up.

I'll air them up and see how they hold the Jeep.

The truck will be heavier, although it has no driveline in it.

Thanks
