A service department new to me charged me $39.50 to change a headlight in my 97 Ford.
It charged me $171.00 to repad the front brakes.
And $136.20 to change the transmision oil.
My question:
Are these charges in line or have I been ripped off?

Dealers always seem to be more expensive than independent shops. Those prices seem high to me, but I don't know the extent of the work done, such as rotors turned or replaced, calipers worked on, etc. Was trans pan only removed or did they do a complete flush?

If those prices include parts they sound just about right. you figure labor rate is somewhere between $55 and $60 per hour. I'd probably flag about 2-3 tenths of an hour to change a headlight. front brakes should pay about a one hour, or if they turned both rotors about two hours. trans filter and fluid , depending on it theres any exhaust or crossmembers in the way, should pay about 1-2 hours.
