I am trying to make a dual exhaust for excursion with side pipes dumping before the rear axle. Starting with a 4'' down pipe going to just right after the trasmission to where the drive shaft connects. Then using a either a 4"Y pipe or maybe going to a 5", then using oval pipes to keep as much clearance as possible. Finally using a Dr. Gas boom tube, this i can either get in singel inlet of 3 1/2 or dual inlet of 3 1/2. What do you guys think will I have enough flow, or to little. Should I use the single or dual inlet boom tube.
Right now I only have the 6637 intake, mods to come or dp tuner, then later ats housing, and wicked wheel. After a while maybe stage 1 injectors.
Thanks guy sorry for the long post and unusual request.
i think flowmaster has a muffler for compact spaces but i dunno if its diesel grade! have you ever considered a WALKER diesel muffler i've heard their pretty good for those that want a muffler
Yeah doing it for the look and sound from both sides. The only thing is that they only come in 3 1/2" inlets, but I have the option of getting a dual 3 1/2" inlets and maybe fab a connector so the exhaust gases will not be choked down. Here is link of what it will look like, but this is a car using it.
Interesting idea. you can get a 4 to 3.5 reducer that will just go into the boom tubes. I believe I would get to be real good friends with a local exhuast guy and have him do the install and weld the joints, and clamps.
since you are running dual exits, the 3.5" inlets of the boom tubes should not present a problem.
Why not just buy a dual setup from one of the manufacturers. You can get them with a muffler.
There are no dual kits for the Excursions.
To the OP, your going to hurt your performance with anything other then a 4" in and out... You dont want any reducers or anything in the exhaust.
If you want a muffler in the system, get a Aeroturbine with a 4" inlet and outlet, then get a 4" Y pipe and split it after the muffler. Dont cheap out on that or you will regret it later.

My bad. I should look at the info provided a lot closer before replying.
The boom tubes are not really mufflers so to say. They are jsut chambered exhaust similar to MKO's muffler with just a straight through design, not anything that will cause a build up of pressure.

Exactly, we use these on our stock cars. the boom tubes you are talking about are nothing more than a tip on the end of your pipes. run 4" all the way to the tips. The tips that you are using have a interior that will not impede the flow . If you run without a muffler it should be no more than with a muffler. The dual exits will quiten down the exhaust some(about as much as a straight through muffler would) since there is no resonator (megaphone) effect of a larger tip off a smaller pipe.
Remember that exhuast guy I told you become friends with? Well if he is worth his salt, he should be able to flatten your 4" pipe to mate with the 3.5 tip, and fill the voids by welding them.
The only other thing I would worry about is, if you still have the factory running boards, and are going to exit near them, they my see some heat distortion (melt).
Post pics when you have it all installed.
It's gonna be a while, have to save up some scratch first. Just had the lift done a few weeks ago. I have some diamond plate runing boards that are pretty tuff, so no heat worrys. I will for sure put up some pics of it. Thanks guys for the help
