I'd mentioned a few weeks ago, that I use my 66 to haul junk, tow trailers, launch a boat etc., much to the chagrin of people who see me doing it. My reply was "if I can't use it as a truck, I can't justify keeping it."
I'm sure these people would scream if they knew what I was doing this weekend.
Last year, at our cabin, we had to get about 10 huge trees knocked down due to damage, being dead, etc. I cut up as much as I could, but a lot of it was down in a ravine. I wanted to get some of it out so I could let it dry and cut it in a more convenient place.
This weekend, I hooked my old 66, with the 300 motor, up to four logs. These weigh between 750 and 1000 lbs. each. I managed to drag all of them out of the 50' deep ditch, about 50 yards through some woods, and into the yard with little effort. I can't imagine what some of those people who chastize me for DRIVING the truck would think of this...
That, is Awesome Chris, I love to see people using their trucks, they are TRUCKS duh!!
I just used mine to haul and old van and copper down to fresno, almost 11,000 lbs! And I use it to get gravel for the driveway, dirt, bark, you name it, glad to hear someone else has the same ideas!
It's great to see owner's of these vintage trucks continue to use them for their intended purpose, this is not to say I don't appreciate Ford truck enthusiast who go thru and restore/retro fits these slicks, should see me at 'Goodguys Custom and Hot Rod' swap meet, like kid in a candy store. Purchased a 65 F100 at county auction in 1972, in it's previous life it was a Pacific Gas and Electric truck and has some of the heavy equipment found on a truck intended to be used as a 'workhorse'. I have continued to use the truck on a daily basis for the same purpose. Don't get me started posting testimonials about some of the task I have put the truck through. Chris, congrats, it's good to hear your trucks is still going strong, treat it to an occasional tune up and oil change and it will keep on 'truckin'.
One requirement my wife has given me on building her pickup, she wants a PICKUP, not a CAR. If she wanted a car, we would have a mustang. If we can't take it out in the pasture sometimes, haul the dogs in the back of it, go to the lake, and shoot, maybe even build some fence, she has no use for it.
BTW- we did use it to mend some barbed wire for her dad one time...only problem was the bed was in our driveway . That was interesting.
