reading codes?

so does the check engine light have to be on to have a tripped code? i was thinkin about gettin it scanned for codes but i dont have a light on. i was just gonna see if anything was showin up (trans. worries)

If the light has come on in the last month or so, it will be stored in memory. Otherwise I doubt anything will show up. I could be wrong.

Yes it's possible to have a soft code set without the check engine light, but I can't think of one of them that would be worth spending the money for a scan. If you do have one show up I doubt it would help you with your worries.

Maybe you'll get lucky and someone that lives nearby with a scanner will see this and offer a free scan to put your mind at ease. If it were me I'd put that money toward a tank of fuel.

most trans. codes do not set a light.

ok well i got a buddy that works at a oil shop and i was gonna let him hook it up for me while he had it in to do tranny flush. so i was wonderin if anything wuld have a chance to show up w/o a light being on!
