Going crazy about shift interlock!
I've been all over the forum looking for advice and have found much to help, but still have a problem. Guess I'm on the way to the dealership unless one of you kind experts points me to a fix.
1996 big Bronco, EB, 351, tow package. Won't shift out of "park" (yes, I can override by turning key to "on", shifting to neutral and starting the engine). Cruise control turns on and speed stays close to setting but is erratic. Without cruise on, truck wants to stay at speed like the cruise is on. Braking will bring down the RPM but I'm braking against the engine. When accelerating the AT shifts at much higher RPM than normal. Original Fuse 15 (the shift interlock circuit) was found not blown but replaced with a new one anyway. Brake lights work, although they were not a few days ago, while speed problem is constant! I see and can get my hands on a switch attached to the brake pedal linkage. Could this switch be the problem? If so, why do the brake lights work? I understand that there is another switch having to do with the shift interlock inside the steering column. Could that be the problem? Is there anything else that could be it, like a relay under the hood?
Also, the "check engine" light is on (given the situation, that light means to me "don't hit the car in front of you even if your engine wants to" or "don't let the car behind you hit you because you may not have brake lights").
Thanks, everybody.
when was the tranny serviced last? is your speedo or abs light acting up?
