Newbie seeking dimensions...

Hey folks,

Currently have a Ram 1500 Quad that is at MAX ratings for towing our new travel trailer (7000lbs GVWR). Was thinking of trying to find a 3/4 ton crew truck but have come across an X with a V10. With 3 boys ( 12, 13, and 16), the third row seating seems like a good idea to "keep 'em separated," not to mention the oldest is at 6'3", so a little leg room would be good for him.

Anyway, I did a search to find out what the overall length of an X is and couldn't find it. Would like to know if the beast will fit in the garage before I get too carried away.

Also, with the 3rd row in, what sort of depth is there in the rear cargo area as we have a crate/kennel for our pooch that needs to fit back there - we could just let him have the floor, but he's so used to travelling in his 'box' that he gets a little twitchy when he doesn't have it.

Another also, has anyone fitted a front 2" receiver to their X as we'll need one for our bike rack. Is it OK to do so?

Thanks everyone,

Mike - fuel prices be darned

I have the length bumper to bumper at 18 feet 4 inches. With the third row seat in, I have the cargo space as exactly 30" deep by 48" wide. Hope this helps. One other thought, particularly if you are looking at a lifted vehicle: Does your garage door have the height clearance? Just a thought. Best of luck! Mike

Thanks for all the info guys.

Just noticed that the '00 payload is only 1710lbs. With my 6-700lbs tongue weight plus the family/dog bikes it looks like I'd be very close to the GVWR, which is the reason I'm thinking of getting rid of the Ram.
Our trailer isn't very condusive to storing bike inside, not to mention my DW wouldn't be thrilled with the idea of having them travelling on beds etc.

Hmmm....

The main reason that these are underrated is because of the weak springs that they came with... add F250 springs and feel free to load her up... or a Roadmaster RAS.

I have 4 kids and a 8000 GVWR Travel Trailer, so my only option was the Excursion... besides 1 ton vans... but I wanted a 4x4. Since you have 3 kids (can't call 6' 3" a kid anymore!!!), you may want to go with an F250/350 Pickup. I would have if I could have.

Good luck in your search!!

Oh, and I'm not worried about "overloading" this truck lie I would have on my Expedition. The tires can handle it, the axle can handle it.
