I got a 79 F100 with manual brakes. now I have to keep a small flashlight set under the brake pedal to hold it up or the brake lights will stay on. my dad found just a small leak of brake fluid slowing coming into the cab. so is the master cylinder bad or not?
The lights staying on might be due to the switch itself. Definitely replace the MC if it is leaking inside the cab. Autozone has them at a better price than LMC.

its not the switch because if you lift the pedal just 1/8 of an inch the lights will turn off.
[quote=F250army45d;6113713]Yeah 35 dollars in the local parts store got one at AUTOZONE and one rrom NAPPA.[ /quote]
$35 thats great but the nearest AUTOZONE is 30 miles from here and the NAPA here in town doesn't have anything like that, but I can't talk trash about the man that runs NAPA because that's my mom's relatives. he's a nice guy......except he doesn't have something when you need it, it will be next week or so.
Switch is probably out of adjustment that's why the flash light is needed to prop the pedal up enough to activate it.
As for the Master Cylinder? I'd order in the exact replacement via either Advance Auto or AutoZone's website. Both companies offer mail order processing, and it's bound to be cheaper then using LMC for such a basic item.
could also be the bushings in the pedal its self. i have that problem with mine. i have an extra assembly to replace it. just havent had the time to do it.
