Loose Pieces?
"76" 302. Found 4 small metallic, but not magnetic,pieces beside # 1 exhaust valve, although could have came from somewhere else. Lying around oil drain hole. Appear to be parts of a round piece about 1/2" with wall thickness of about 1/16". Any ideas? Running fine, just pulled valve cover to replace gasket.

I'm going to bet they're not metallic at all, but rock hard pieces of disintegrated umbrella type valve stem seal. Check if any are missing.
These pieces have a nasty habit of getting through the oil pump pickup screen and jamming the pump gears, causing failure of the oil pump drive and all that happens after that.

Thanks Beanscoot. You are exactly right. I like this site, more access to tech style forums, but it's not very active. Asked same question on diff site and had 5 responses in 2 day's. I do at least browse it once a day, but realize not everyone has as much time as I do.
