finally got a chance to figure out what was wrong with my transmission on my 94 f-150 4x4. we thought the shift tower was froze up but when we pulled it off the previous owner ran it without oil i guess. its just gone. my question is with the transmission thats in it now(the mazda toyo one) be dumped and can the zf tranny be put in its place? as long as i can find one that bolted up to another strait 6 i should be fine right? the scrapyards want 750 for a used one and i cant see paying that much. the zf trannys are cheaper and i want to go that route.

You will need to find a 5spd out of a 3/4 or 1 ton they are what commonly got the ZFs. Your ZF will need to be out of a 4x4 with a 4.9L, 5.0L, or a 5.8L. I reused the clutch and slave cyl from the mazda it all worked fine so did the trans mount and your transfercase will bolt right to the new tranny. Heck even the wiring for the reverse lights and NS switch just plugged right in on mine. My bronco wasn't any harder than putting a mazda tranny back in except for the fat that the ZF weighs three times as much.
