I took the truck in hoping to get the newest flash done, thinking this would help the cold idle problem. Dealer calls later and tells me it needs 8 new injectors. I was suprised, and thankful I have warranty. I also asked about an upgraded strategy, and he said that would be updated as well. Should get it back in 6 days (waiting on parts). What can I expect? Will they need to change oil or fuel filters while working on the system? I just changed them about 100 mile ago. They also said I have a leaking sterring box. Wonder if that's repairable, or non servicable. Anything else I should have the tech look at while he's in there? Is changing the 8 injectors time consuming? I wonder what the bill would have been without warranty? I also wonder about my egr vavle, it was caked last time I pulled it out. Hopefully when I get the beast back all will be well.
Anyone know if a full set injector replacement requires an oil change or fuel filter change? I ask only because I just replaced them, and would like to keep costs down where I can. Perhaps it is mandatory, or maybe even covered in the Powerstroke warranty. The dealer says they should get the injectors Monday, so I'm hoping to get the truck back Tuesday or Wednesday.
When I arrived they had a list of items needing repair: Steering gear box (parts & labor) - $ 735.00, Right hand center link (parts & labor) - $150.00, Left side upper/lower ball joints (parts & labor ) - $ 460.00, Front brake pads and resurface rotors - $340.00, Rear brake pads and resurface rotors - $280.00, and we can't forget the $135.95 alignment! Grand total $2100 plus tax! I have my work cut out for me! They also found a small leak on top of the engine, but the tech said it was normal? The leak is basically in the valley behind the oil filter location, is this normal?
While out and about today I stopped in at an Advanced Auto store, and found a steering gear rebuild kit. Has anyone ever used one of these? NAPA has some decent greasable ball joints I will try, I think are Moog or Spicer. I think I am stuck going through Ford for the center link. If I have the entire front end all apart, and suggestions on other items I should go ahead and atleast look at if not replace?
Are you under warranty?
How did it drive when you took it in? Wondering or pulling?
Sounds like they gave it a good check out, but they can be very pro active.
Still under the powerstroke warranty. It's an 05 with 81,500 miles. It wonders a little, and the steering wheel is way out of alignment. Plus you can hear the front end make noise when turning. I haven't had the truck long, but the previous owner did nothing except fuel filter, and oil changes. I'm sure Ford is being very proactive on the repairs needed, but I know for sure the front end needs a look over. Leaking steering gear might just continue to leak, but I haven't had a looksee myself yet. Injectors in a day, that's nice to know. Thanks!
When I had the headgaskets replaced they drained the oil and coolant. I didn't get charged with the new oil or coolant. I saw the amounts on the invoice but it was all included in the price of the repair. I only paid the $100 deductable.
Everything pertaining to the engine should be under warranty, the brakes ,front end and gear box will not unless there is an extended warranty.
If you are paying for the front end, get the Moog greasable ball joints from Napa.
The tech stated that there was leakage on top of the engine. This sounds like EGR cooler or cooler hose and no, it is not normal. It should be repaired under the engine warranty.
