I just got a old 302 for rebuild and I am trying to find out what it was originally in and what year it is. Here are the numbers, from what I can tell. The numbers are pretty hard to read right now: D80E-8015-E3A
D8 = 1978
O = Fairlane
E = Mahwah, NJ
8015 = Part number, should be the code for a 302
E3A = Well, if it was just plain E, it would mean 4th revision, but it has that 3A on it as well, so I have no clue.
But, I did get you the information you asked for. It came out of a '78 Fairlane manufactured in Mahwah, NJ.
Now, can you help me out? I have the stuff to decifer codes, but can you tell me where on the block the casting number is? I've got a rebuilt 302 in my '82 F-150 and I have no clue where to look.
I am pretty new to the whole auto mechanic stuff. This is my first rebuild. On my block, the ID# is on the right hand side just below where the head meets. It is in the back, top corner, right side. Hope this helps. And thanks.
