Took the truck in yesterday morning. They called in the afternoon to tell me the cab is coming off. Probably started when the turbo stuck and was over boosting.
Make darn sure they check the heads and block deck to ensure they're flat. The heads can warp and should be replaced if they are. Do not ask the Service Advisor about this, ask the Technician directly!
They should also have an answer about why the gaskets blew. Ask them if the turbo is being replaced and if not, why? Have them check the EGR valve and EGR cooler while they're in there. Now's the time to get it squared away!
My truck is going in Monday for puking. I already talk to the diesel tech and he is talking HG. I spoke to him about Arp studs he is never done one and has said he would do it but he would have to add to the cost of the service.
My question is would you let him do it; and if so what is fair for the additional charge since he is already in there doing the HG?
Well, the price could have been $300 and I would have paid the man, if only for the peace of mind. It's worth having the confidence knowing the studs won't stretch and allow the heads to lift. It's money very well spent IMHO.
Studs are not hard to put in. You install the before the heads, Torque them to specs, install head gaskets, install heads, install nuts on studs, torque to specs.
At least that is how we do it when we build gas race engines. It can't be any difference.
If he can't handle that I wouldn't want him working on my truck in the first place.
Dealership called just a little while ago, should have my truck back tomorrow. They needed to know if I had a chip or any tunes on it before they reflashed it. I'm sure the six extra guages had them wondering. I pretty much had decided to see how it held up under warranty before I did anything major anyway. So the mods in my sig are all that is on it now. Under warranty it has had 2 EGR valves, 1 Turbo, Headgaskets, EPB sensor and 2 reflashes(05E15 and whatever they put on it this time) in 79,900 miles.
