Engine cleaning

Is there anything to watch out for when pressure washing a 7.3? Is it recomended to power wash the engine or just spray with a garden hose? I want to clean things up before I put an intake on it.

Simple gree and a garden hose is all you need. Let the engine cool off, put a plastic bag over the PS pump, the brake reservoir, and the alternator for safety. Spray the engine down with the simple green and let it sit for a few minutes, then gently spray it off. When you are finished...Don't forget to remove the bags before starting!!!

Trust me, it has been done before and it kind of sucks. Whatever you do, don't pressure wash it. It will get water into the connectors and cause problems down the line later.

I wouldn't recommend spraying the top end of the motor. There are harnesses, sensors and other electrical components you wouldn't want wet.

Get a good engine cleaner and wiper her down with rags. Powerwash the underside of the motor if you think that needs a good washing.

I spray everything with simple green and let it soak for a few mins. On the bad stuff I will take a paint brush and rub thing down to get things clean. Then use the hose and wash everything down. Then start it up and let her run till dry. Never had a problem doing it like this.

I use a washdown gun to spray the simple green straight out the gallon jug.

Yes, it hooks to air compressor and has a tube you put in the gallon jug and it sucks the soap out. I do lower the air psi enough to still have it suck the soap.
