When you change out your fuel filters, do you pre-soak them in diesel to help minimize air?
Once changed does it take long to work air out of the system?
Is it best to let it idle or drive it to work air out?
OR am I being concerned over nothing?
There is a procedure in the manual for bleeding the air. No, you don't have to presoak the filters. Just install then turn the key on and wait 30 seconds repeat 5 times I think. Then fire it up and drive away.
New question-- I was looking under truck at fuel filter. It seems there's little room to maneuver with the fuel lines in the way. Do you have to disconnect the lines or is there a "secret" to changing the filter?
No secret, just do it. Piece of cake for srd but with 4 X 4 you have to maneuver around the front axles. "Do not disconnect the fuel lines" When you put the cap back on, coat the new O ring with motor oil or vaseline. Do not use diesel as it will swell the O ring. Torque to spec being certain that the cap is seated.
Not cheap are they? Just called O'Reilly's and one is $31 and the other $77??? Ouch! Even the filters for my Audi aren't nearly that much! Just figured my truck, a Job 1, is over a year old with 15K miles so it's probably a good idea.
Well I have my first fuel filter change behind me and the only remaining question is who was the $&%^$$%^& that located the lower fuel filter immediately adjacent to a cross member and surrounded by wiring bundles, brake lines, etc.????
Upper filter was no problem, lower one sucked.
I found a 10" extension and a universal swivel to be a necessity.
Thanks to Diesel Filters Online it only cost me $47 (using Motorcraft FD 4609 filters).
