I have an '02 F150 Supercrew with the 7700 tow package. It's a 4X4 with 3.55's. The mileage never has been good, but it's fallen to 12 MPG. About the best I've ever done on the highway is 15. We use it to pull a lightweight 5th wheel and when we're towing it gets between 9 and 5 MPG depending on the wind. Last time we checked it got 8. No mountains, just north Texas hills.
All my mileages are hand calculated and I'm not in a hurry to get anywhere. When we're towing I run around 55 mph. My tires are all properly inflated. The truck has a little under 75K on it now.

+ 1. I use a cheap $5.00 WalMart calculator to figure mine.... and drive like an old man - OH WAIT, I AM...
has anyone every tried a classic Vacuum gauge.....or "Motor Minder" as they were called in the 70's.....i was telling my dad about getting that scan gauge to monitor MPG's on my 1997 F150...and he took me out to his 1977.5 F150 and showed me the Vacuum gauge which pretty much accomplishes the same thing....if you aren't looking for all the features of the Scan gauge....so i checked the price at local auto store....only $22.51 CAD for that gauge.....anyone think its worth trying?
I run one so I can see how hard the motor is working when in cruise. Very handy. The injector stats will show more. But the vac gauge is a pretty good for the cost and simplicity.
I have a similar truck in 2wd and tow a 27' Fifth Wheel. I've never got less than 8 crossing Eastern mountains or more than 10 on flat land while towing with it. I get 18mpg highway unloaded. My mileage deteriorated to 15 highway a couple years back. No codes recorded in the computer but a check showed my O2 sensors were slow to operate. New O2 sensors restored my mileage.
Recently my brakes were dragging due to bad brake hoses and cut my mileage. I couldn't tell they were dragging with the 5.4 and 3.55 rear end.
