Well I put new balljoints into my new dream beams and when I go to put the nut on the bottom one it wont screw on. I look at it closely and see the thread is messed up. I messed with it for about 2 hours trying to fix the threads and just ended up going to autozone and getting another one. Now my question is can I press the lower ball joint out without having to take the upper out also? I have a rented ball joint press from autozone and I cant get it on right.

The botton joint comes out after the top - the tool fits up through the hole for the top joint to press out the bottom joint. Unfortunatly, pressing out the upper joint will ruin it.
For future use, you can chase most threads with a die. The fine threads on a ball joint may not be in a standard SAE set of taps and dies though. I may have even learned this on this thread but you damage most threads when you cross thread a nut. To fix, just grind a taper on the end of the bolt.
I didn't have a thread file and when I went to Autozone they didn't say anything about one. Autozone didn't have a die set big enough for the ball joint.
I ended up getting the ball joints on and got the driver side all done.
Hopefully Ill have no problems with assembling the passenger side. I have everything ready to go.
Thanks for the photo, I will pick one up. I suppose they come in metric and SAE. Too many tools not enough time . I used my buddy's tube bender tonight (the kind on the pedistal with a long handle) There is nothing like the right tool for the job. May not ever need one again but it was great to have to do the job right insted of rube-ing one together. I was bending 5/16 solid rod to hang the 4 inch straight pipe on my 7.3 oil burner. Thanks to this forum I installed new HP fuel pump last weekend.
Thats coming along nicely, you should paint your calipers while you have the wheels off. I used a dupi-color caliper kit I got at an auto parts store. It was $15 and came with everything I needed. It looks good, I did 3 coats on 4 calipers and still have 3/4 of a can of paint left.

I was thinking about it but then thought that with my wheels I have I don't think you would even see them.
