I was tinkering with my truck and I noticed this little box with a couple wires going to on the top inside of the grille
I got to looking and its a toggle switch tucked up inside of my grille out of sight, I couldn't tell where it went and was playing with it flipping it back and fourth then I went to start the truck, it wont fire? a little Biddy flies by a smacks me in the back of the head, duh that was a kill switch, I flip it back and she fires right up! so I just found it amusing and wanted to share with my fellow" Fordahollics"
its fun figuring out new stuff on this old truck
it is definitly after market, it runs to the electronics box on the drivers side fenderwell, you could also put a toggle switch in the hot wire going to your coil
on it starts, off it dont
I just thought it was cool someone did this and I did not know it was there, and I have been under the hood a lot lately, I am finding a lot of things, its kinda like a treasure hunt everyday I find something new
well I can shut it off from right there while I'm under the hood if I need too.
I have been thinking about putting a start button in the truck
now that is just one more thing I dont have to do so people cant steal it. Sweet!!!!
actually the weather is supposed to be crappie with a increased chance of crappieness
followed by more gloom and glum
but all is good, I get a little bit done when I can
Yo salter...I found one of those switches in my truck too...I removed it though. I found something else I can't figure out where it goes though. I have a sliding switch right about where my seatbelt is mounted. All it says is On/OFF. When I switch it to ON it blows all my fuses...so I just leave it off. I wonder what it is/what it does/what it was used for. Enjoy your treasure hunt...you have a WHOLE weekend coming up and it's gotta be warming up for you.
I KNOW WHAT THAT IS!!!!
it is/was for the cargo area light that some trucks have. there were 2 different types of switches a toggle and a slide switch. i've only seen that option once. it should have been tied into the interior lights, but i guess ford was lazy?
i meant logically speaking it should have had no switch. it should have been wired to come on when the interior lights came on. but thats not the way ford wired it.
I put the same kind of kill switch in one of my trucks. Cut into the coil wire and put a small little switch up under the dash, so small I hit it with a rag and shut it off. By the time I figured what I had done I had the complete ignition system out of the truck and wasted 2 hours trying to fix the truck, only to find my own anti-theft switch was the trouble. The truck is currently for sale at a dealer an hour from me and the guy is trying to pass the truck off as an Original 79 , 429, with only 43,000 kms on it. BULL****, 343,000 when I sold it, never came woth a 429 and he tells eveyone it came from out west. It was bought new in Sydney Nova Scotia and hualed coal till I bought it in 1986. I have a good mind to go look at it and trip the little switch, it would take them days to find out what was wrong. I hate when dealers try and rip people off that may not know the difference.
Do it! that would be friggin hilarious
or trip it and buy it back at a discount because it dont run.
then when the paper work is done, flip the switch and drive it off the lot
