Not sure what is the best year. I have an 01 F350 7.3 cc lb with a lift and I am getting about 15MPG on average. There is so much you can do to the 7.3's (I am sure you can with the 6.0 also) to get better MPG. It all depends on how you drive it also, I tend to drive a little on the fast side so I am sure I could get better mileage if I just stayed out of the HP alittle.
I just figured mine today. I have a 07 6.0 with 35,000 miles and 20" wheels from an 08.
Average on a full tank around town with some highway is 15 MPG.
Today I had to go on a 3 hour drive. I filled up the tank when I got on the highway, got to my destination, turned around and came home. When I got off the highway I filled up again at the same station. I tried to use the cruise as much as possible, but the traffic was heavy on the ride back. Also, I tried to keep it around 70MPH or between 1,800 and 2,000 RPM.
doing 15ish in town and 18 to 19 hwy unloaded on my 04. i won't complain at all, but if i was looking for another i'd be looking for a 7.3 w/ the 6 spd.
how much better is the 6.0 getting over the 6.4?? It would almost be better to buy a low mileage 2006 2007 than a new for the mileage and no dpf.
I've been mulling this myself. My 6.0 was a bad example of an early truck but if the later ones are more sorted then it could be a better over buy than a truck that gets 5-7 mpg less with todays fuel prices.
I would still like to find an 03' 7.3 4 door that hasn't been worked to death. But in my rural location this seems hard to do.
