I got a 1986 F150 Lariat Long box. After I'm done doing the body work and everything I'm thinking about painting it a flat black(first I'm going to spray on primer). What does everyone think about that? What can I do to protect the paint job for at least a few years?Any suggestions or thoughts? It's red now.If you want to see it feel welcomed to look at my gallery.I took the topper off too and I'm taking everything off the frame and I'm either painting the frame black or red with some type of paint or something.Suggestions and anything are very welcomed.
I also like flat black, but personally I wouldn't paint my whole truck that color. But it's your truck and you can do whatever you want with it. I would use it for accenting parts of the truck. Whatever you do good luck with it and post pictures when you're done.
Use flat black with a non-gloss sealer over it, or gloss black with a flattener in it, or it will show every fingerprint, stain, ect. I think flat black with a little chrome, or polished alum. looks great for a hot rod/work in progess-kinda look
I went the cheap route with John Deere Blitz Black (which is a single stage enamel) on my truck and I love it. I get compliments on the truck all the time.
I'm trying to shoot for the simple and "in progress" look.I'm planning on applying some chrome parts too.Should I put anything over the flat black to seal it or what?I'm sorry,I'm not a expert on paint in any way.Hopefully it will look good and everything. It probably won't be done for a while but I will be sure to post pictures.I want to put on flat black because it sounds like it will be pretty cheap and I really like the look.
Using a two part paint with deadner in the clear coat gives a very durable finish, I've had mine for a few years (temporary is longer than I thought) and I'm very pleased.
