New passive circuit element discovered

Thought this would be interesting to some; at least I think it's really amazing. Researchers at HP have constructed a fourth passive circuit element called the memristor, to join the traditional resistor, capacitor and inductor. The same way a capacitor maintains voltage and an inductor maintains current, a memristor maintains resistance "applied" to it. The theory was discovered in the 70's, but no one was ever able to make it until now. Many see it as a "missing" piece of the puzzle. There are many future possible applications of it, particularly volatile memory. Amazing stuff.

Saw this on GadgetLab yesterday.

It IS amazing. We'll see what comes of the applications.
