Thought this would be interesting to some; at least I think it's really amazing. Researchers at HP have constructed a fourth passive circuit element called the memristor, to join the traditional resistor, capacitor and inductor. The same way a capacitor maintains voltage and an inductor maintains current, a memristor maintains resistance "applied" to it. The theory was discovered in the 70's, but no one was ever able to make it until now. Many see it as a "missing" piece of the puzzle. There are many future possible applications of it, particularly volatile memory. Amazing stuff.
