First Long Tow

Just got back from first long trip towing 13k 5th wheel. Went from Virginia Beach Virginia to Nashville Tennessee. Up over 2 mountain ranges 2500 ft. 5-6 % grades. Long long up hill pulls. This truck is a beast. I only have 373 rear end. I went up Afton Mountain at 65 miles per hour passing cars. Boost wen up close to 30 but I never had to really get into it. Entire trip was 1620 miles hand calculated. 9.7 mpg. Almost the entire trip was up and down mountains. I guess the mileage could be better but this truck is really worth every dime i paid for it.

It's great to hear about someone else as satisfied with their new SD as I am. I've got over 15,000 no problem miles and hope that continues. I get 14-15 mpg on county roads, as high as 17 mpg on interstate trips, and even 12-13 mpg towing my 20' boat. If Minnesota ever warms up from our "global warning" (idiots) I'm anxious to see how it does pulling my 30' TT.

I agree, this truck is a beast with style!!

Glad to hear it. I normally pull my boat around 100 mile round trip to fish. On the 28th, travelling to NY to pick up my new TT and towing back to FL. TT weighs around 8500 lbs and I am curious as to how it will tow something a little lighter and a long trip. I am sure the TT will have more wind drag then my catamaran boat.

Good to hear it! I'm happy to hear from happy owners. We use our 6.4L F250 for a work truck, pulling a trailer all over AZ. Some up hill, down hill, and flat towing. The guys love the truck, power, and milege when towing.

9.7 mpg sounds pretty decent to me for 13k on grades. I have never towed that much so I like your comment about checking to see if the trailer was still back there. I've never owned a 7.3 or a 6.0 so I don't know how they would compare to MPG while towing that kind of weight. But I would be happy with that mileage, especially with all that torque on tap while riding in style. Glad to hear it did so well.

I've got the 7.3, and i have done that, with similar mileage... but i have a feeling on the grades i've got my foot a little lower to the floor...
