Fun alternator problems.
Like I said, the alternator was supposedly rebuilt and that's partly true. The front bearing (which had gone bad) was for a chevy alternator and not a ford. The back cover had been painted before it was sold and the paint was covering a part that is suppose to be a ground for the alternator and had made a nice burn mark as a result. Needless to say the person who looked at this would not let me have it back unless he fixed it to which I would have agreed to anyways. Total cost for fixing it is $40 which I'm not complaining about at all. The guy is also going to make sure it's a true 130amp and not a 95 hiding in disguise since this is a questionable alternator.
Moral of the story... If you buy an alternator off of Ebay that says it's been rebuilt, have a shop look at it before you hook it up! I'm glad I held onto my old 95amp for a backup as a result of this mess. I'm planning on sending a "nice" letter to the seller telling them what was found and thanking them for the trouble.
And with that I've had my rant for the day... I feel a little better now
Got it back a few hours ago. The guy did further work to it since he didn't like the parts he saw in there that the ebay seller used and put new OE ford parts back in it and it's now a 200amp alternator for the same $40. To be honest I'm a little stunned but not complaining at all. The only thing I might have to do is up my 175amp charge cable fuse to a 200amp and that shouldn't be a big problem. E-Fan here I come
.
also where are you located? you should ask the guy that did the work if he wanted to make a bit more cash on the side. he could get a lot of business from fellow ford guys.
