Hey all, new to site, since im starting a new project that will involve some smart outside brain power, and the fact that some of you have been there, i have had a 49 ford f1 for about 15 years now, last summer i decided to start a small project with it, ripped it all apart...... i took a 87 S10 pickup front end and put it in place of the old straight axle, i seem to have gotten it all straight but the stage im currently at i still needs a bit of reinforcment.. have any of you used S10 front ends for your builds? i have a 460 i am going to instal if i can figure everything else out, any posts/comments would be awsome thanks guys!
Welcome to the board!!! IMO, I'd be boxing that front end for the 460. Even the heaviest engine in an S10 is no match to the 460's weight. There' are certain techniques used to weld on a frame to prevent cracking. The original frame is designed to twist and flex. You'll get several answers as you go here, some are even right, lol. Oh, and we all like pics, so if ya can get a gallery going, it's a great way to share progress. Good luck.
as you can tell im VERY inexperienced in this lol... but this is what i started and it still sits, my dad has done some old car restoration but i dont think he has ever swaped major components like this, i agree the motor is deff a brick, i have a 390 as well, but the 460 i built several years ago and only put a few miles on it so for $ wise it makes since, or maybe not

Hi Shawn,
Welcome, nice to have you!
As far a using Brain Power, I'm not sure that's in a surplus here!
But, we've all "been there" so, glad to help! Just ask and we will do our best.
