Adding off road/ work lights

Hi, I am trying to install some off road lights onto a toggle switch in the cab of my 96 explorer. I tried to tap into the electircal connections on the cigarette lighter plug at the bottom of the dash but I am always blowing a 30amp fuse under the hood. I have checked the wires and there are no nicks in the insulation and all the solder joints are shrink wrapped so I dont think there is a short in the circuit. Is there another place I can tap into a 12 volt power supply? Unfortunately I dont have the specs on the off road lights.

Take them apart or whatever you have to do, but you need this info to make sure you have enough capacity in your wiring and where you get the power from.
