The fourth digit represents a 360 motor for the '72 year; if the motor is original and not swapped out. The first three represents a F100 2wd, which is probably not news to you. The fifth digit says it's made in Kansas City, MO. The remaining digits, P43109, identfies when and where in the production line your truck was produced. The P indicates June of 1972. The remaining number work like this, each assembly plant started with the same sequential number of M40,000. Thus, the first truck in Kansas City production in 1972 would be assigned M40,000, as the first truck assigned to San Jose would also be M40,000. After M99,999, the id would jump to N00,000. There is no letter "O" prefix as this would be confusing and was all together skipped. The unique serial number identifier would be the plant code.
As far as your rear axle is concerned, there should be a code on the tag, middle line, last two digits. Then I can tell you what kind of guts are in your rear axle.

See this really puzzle's me ! I know we now have Bill and he's great... and so is glenn... But were here for information...and some guys/Gals cant wait for Bill or Glenn as they dont live there life's on this site...
And if its a weekend and you have something torn down and need the information as quick as possible...It doesnt make sense not to Show a Man where he CAN go for the proper ID info...
Its not as if there taking any business away from FTE...Its just information is all.... And I thought once FTE was sold...This policy might have changed? But I guess Not.... Which I think is Tea Totally wrong!!
Over the years I have brought so many Guys/Gals to this ste for info I cant count....and I share my limited knowledge of engines with all the FE sites Not only this one.... And "IF" you havent noticed I have limited my time here on detailed building information becuase of that fact that some other sites ARE willing to share info that are on other sites and this one has blocked it...
So FTE gets as much Billing from other FE sites and doesnt allow its Members to share that info!! A were all into Infromation and it all is free and should be shared!! Little Tiffs between sites dont help out the bottom line!! The Guys that keep these Forums going!!! and the newbie's....
I hope you send a copy of this to all your sponsor's !! I for one would like to know what they think!!
Thank you very much, spent the entire day and alot of effort to retrieve info. that should be on the title in my opinion...hope my new toy gets a little easier to play with. A true thanks, Mr. Dummy
