97 F-350 Powerstroke
The engine will sometimes just shut off as if I turned the key. Intermittent. it will start back up. Lately getting worse. Driving down the road it can shut off and come back on. There are three keys pieces to the fuel supply, fuel pump, injector pump and the injector Driver Module. I am thinkng the electronic component but I don't know whether low pressure could cause something intermittent. 157K on the truck.
No OBD codes register
Sounds like a bad CPS to me, have you had yours replaced under the recall yet? If not take your truck to a Ford dealer, they'll put in a new CPS for you and send you on your merry way. It's a good idea to carry a spare in the glovebox too in case on quits you on the road. In case you're not up on the acronyms, CPS stands for cam position sensor.
Short version of our fuel system: our trucks have a 2 stage fuel pump that lifts fuel from the tanks and pumps it through the filter system under low pressure and then to the high pressure side of the pump where it is pumped under high pressure through the fuel passages in the heads to the injectors. The IDM sends voltage to the injector solenoids to open the injectors to allow fuel to be sprayed into the cylinders.
