Ok so i am starting to look into doing DIY 160cc injectors from DIY-injectors.com and they have choices of AA/AO single shots and AB split shots, both of which are for 97 psd's. My problem is that i have a 97 F350 and i dont know which ones i need to go with.
RubberDuck, i see that you have the stage 2 DIY's, where the stage ones and the stages two's both flow 160cc's what is the difference that makes the price so different?
Here's the difference:
"Our Power Stroke Diesel nozzles are 7 hole nozzles that flow 80% more fuel than a stock PSD nozzle. These are manufactured NEW with larger holes. They are not modified nozzles, but made with larger holes at the factory!"
New Nozzle that flows more fuel.... Cody I miss anything? Bigger nozzle means that more of that 160cc fuel is atomized? Guess I'm not 100% sure what better with the nozzle, but thats what the kit difference is
You are correct Robb. I'm using a 180cc intensifier pistons with the larger nozzles. The difference in the 1's and 2's are the nozzle. It's able to get rid of the 180cc's of fuel quicker.
The AB Split Shot were only installed in the '97 Cali truck if I'm not mistaken and they squirt 120cc's whereas the AA/AO's Single shots squirted 90cc's +-.
(Not certain on actual cc's)
Ok so how would i figure out for sure if my truck is a California truck? The reason that i ask is that i broke a piece the other day and when i went to ford it was only avilable for the trucks with the california emitions control package. But i know that the truck was bought and has staid in MA.
On the hpop resivoir there maybe a tag that says ab denotes injectors, but this is not proof positive as my 97 says this, also on the hp rating on the right vavle cover it would say 225hp as the cali trucks had alittle more hp due to bigger injectors again not 100% proof as my97 has both of these items yet still has AAs in it best way pull vavle cove look at injectors they should be coded on top if any are original.
You could also look at the top of the fuel pump (in the engine valley) and if it's got a "Disk" Shape on top of it then it's cali Here's a pic of the disk under the turbo pedestal, thats's what you'd be looking for:
Ok, i'm in school now but when i get home i will take a look at it. If it is a Cali truck would i have to stick with the single shot injectors or would i be able to run the single shot? what would be any side effects, if any, to the engine?
If it is a Cali truck it should also have a sticker by the radiator or on the hood by the latch catch.
If it is a Cali you will get better performance out of single shots but you may need a chip to reprogram the PCM for the singles.
Also If it is a Cali and you do switch to singles check with the people you get the injectors from to be sure they will take splits as a core for singles.
