g.m. auto trans Q.
hi, my dad has a '96ish S-10 blazer with the 4.3 & 700R4 trans. he said he noticed oil underneath at a fuel fill-up and there was oil on the back window and tailgate. seems to be pushing oil out the vent tube, wasnt pulling anything and trans didnt appear to be running hot, has no shift issues and oil level was only slightly low. i have no idea why it would do this except for high oil level or overheating. any ideas out there? thanks. dave.

Not familiar with this trans...but, vent tube? Does that vent under the truck, and can you see that oil has been coming out of it?
How about the rear seal, where the tailshaft comes out? Always a favorite for coating the underside and back window etc.
Any contamination in the oil, like coolant?
Any contamination in the coolant, like trans oil?

i thought all s-series with the 4.3 used the 700-R4, my bad. dad says there is a vent tube that comes up from both the trans and transfer case as well as the front axle, yep all tied into one. said there was no sign of coolant in oil or oil in coolant. i hadnt searched for g.m. forums yet, i know some of us have other makes besides ford around, and maybe a ford could have a similar problem.
