Something Smells
Something Smells
I have a 1989 F 350, when I turn on the heat or the AC a very bad smell comes from the vents. It's smells like a mouse or something has a nest somewhere in the vent system. How can I get the funk out of my truck?
thanks,
thanks,
If you have a rodent nest, you have to pull it all apart, clean it out and scrub it..with bleach and water is best that I've found ..then hope it fades away. I get stuff at autozone in a green and white aerosol bottle..you put it in the intake cowl and run the fan.. It supposedly kills bacteria, etc...and makes it smell decent.
Good luck...been there where you're at, it isn't that much fun.

About 3 months ago I had a bad smell only when I turned right. Turned out it was a dead mouse who's tail wrapped around my driver side drag link and as the tire turned left, the wind carried the smell up into the vents. But yet you could not smell it outside of the truck standing next to it.
But your problem sounds like a dead rodent in your vents. You could try tearing apart the entire dash and hitting it with a high pressure air hose or try the stuff BChance is talking about from autozone.

I have a bad smell also when i turn on the heat. I'm not so sure its a mouse or something i have a 97 F150 its so bad that it will make u get out of the truck. i'm hopeing its just something dead but could it also be a blown head gasket or heater core i dont seem to be getin much heat when the trucks at normal running temps and the heats on full blast? can someone help?

i dont think a blown headgasket would smell let alone smell bad enough to drive you out of you truck...also on colder days where you would need defrost if your defroster foggs the windows instead of defrosting thats another sign of heater core gone and you will smell antifreeze which is a real sweet smell
