I think i might have a short somewhere. If i don't disconnect the battery it will be dead by morning. I thought it might be the alarm system so i disconnected it but that was not the problem. When i put a test light between - batt terminal and the terminal end it lights up. I was going to pull each fuse until the light went off but the fuse panel is broken loose and very difficult to re-install the fuses. I don't want to make the situation worse. I know the radio draws some voltage for the clock but it shouldn't be that much. I thought i would ask here. Maybe someone has had the same problem. I'm open for suggestions, thanks in advance for your help.......Chuck
I was able to pull each fuse and my light never went out. However, when i removed one of the yellow wires from the starter relay it went out. There are three yellow wires that connect to the + side of the starter relay. I removed the larger diameter of the three and the light went out. Its about 4 or 5 inches long and splits to two smaller wires that go into the harness. I'm thinking it's a fusible link. I'm not sure where the 2 smaller wires go. Could this connect to the alternator? And could the alternator be bad and cause the battery to run down? I'm working with a Haynes repair manual. Its confusing cause the wiring diagrams have both Gas and Diesel schematics on the same page. Tomorrow i'll try to unplug the alternator and see what happens. Still open for ideas, thanks Chuck
The problem was my alternator. I noticed the alt gauge had a very low reading when the truck was idling. But when i revved it to 1500rpm the gauge jumped to normal. I rigged my test light again (with truck engine off) and pulled the alternator plug and the light went out. The alternator was shorting out and running my battery down. I had the test light rigged yesterday and pulled the alternator plug and the light didn't go out. I think i had left the door open and the dome light circuit was open. LOL People run like hell when you ask for help on an electrical problem. I do too!!!!! Later Chuck
