Hi just wondering if anyone can tell me if there is any other transmission (automatic or manual) that can bolt right up in place of my E4OD behind my 5.0L in my '92 2wd F150? Preferably a direct bolt in without too much change (bell housing, mounts, drive shaft.....). Thanks
Well, you can do an AOD, or a 5 speed. With a 5 speed you have the clutch pedal and resovoir under the hood to install. With the aod it would work, but I think you MAY trip a code. You MAY have to change your computer over to a comp from a truck with an aod, or manual.
Im curious though, why do you want to swap out that e4od?
My transmission is really acting up. I have no "Park". When you put it to "P", it just goes into reverse yet there is a noticeable shift between "P" and "R" . So I end up leaving it in "Neutral" with the parking brake on.
My main "Drive" is also shot...it will move forward, but it is like its stuck up to the hubs in mud, you have to rev the heck out of it to move.
The lower forward gears are fine and reverse is perfect. I went to a nearby garage and they told me I need a new tranny. The cost of replacing it will be in the 2 grand range, so I am seeking alternative ideas.
Are you totally against getting another e4od? Of course that would be the easiest option, and from everything i have researched they are supposed to be a pretty tough tranny.
As always a 5 speed would be cool, but Ryan is right, it could be a pretty big headache.
Theres a guy Paul (conanski) in the 87-96 forums that is really knowledgable with this stuff, you should pop in there and ask him what he thinks.
Nathan probably will pop in here with some more specifics too he knows this kinda stuff pretty good.
i'd either swallow the 2g's and rebuild, or drop in a used one... the e4od is a pretty good tranny really. i wouldn't bother trying to find an alternative, too much headache and possibly as much money in the long run as well...
