need help

ok so i drove the truck through soom deep water came up over the hood for a second and stalled it out. after that i climbed out and made sure the intake was above the water level started it back up and drove out. now its making a really annoying ticking noise from the drivers side. i drained the oil and changed it there was no water in it. checked all the fluids no water in them. no check engine light all the gauges reading normal. everything seems normal except for this ticking noise and if i floor it it will only rev to about 3500 while driving. truck is a 2006 with the 5.4 triton

Not sure what it is, but what popped into my head while reading is..

Did you check the spark plug wires? Maybe there is arcing that is giving you the ticking? If you check it out at night you maybe able to see the spark..

My 2 cents

Could also be a leaking exhaust manifold. Might even be cracked from the sudden submersion in water.

all the coils are secure on the plugs. i thought exhaust leak too but would that cause it to not go above 3500 when i floor it also the ticking gets real loud and is rpm sensitive ie: the higher the rpm's the faster the ticking gets

I think all the spark related items would've thrown a CEL. I'm more worried you did get some water in and got enough of a hydrolock to bend a valve. It's definately a ticking and not a knocking sound? Can you narrow it down to a cylinder? A compression or leak-down should find the bent valve...

Did you check your filter box/filter for signs of water? You might also ask this Q under the 5.4 and F150 forums -- there's a ton more 5.4 experts there...

No it would not. I missed that part of the symptoms. Arcing to ground right at the COP sounds most likely. They might even still be holding some water. I suggest pulling them and blowing out with compressed air.

the filter was a little damp after i got out but there was no water in the tubing or the box i let the filter dry out and changed the oil and its still ticking . there wasnt any sign of water in the oil though which makes me think i really didnt suck up that much if any water. the coolant doesnt look like it is watered down

the water level wasnt over the intake the wave created by the truck hit the shore and came back over the hood for like a half a second just long enough to stall me out. and i had to cross the water because the bridge that was there looked like it was about to fall down and my buddy was stuck in the mud on the other side of it

I would only expect water in the oil if you holed a piston and I'm not sure why the coolant would have water in it (from the pond, or wherever you went in).

I may be wrong about the coils arcing throwing a CEL... Ticking sure sounds mechanical to me...
