What have you done to yours?Pics would be great.Im doing some minor things to my 91....Im thinking of a camper shell too, just trying to get ideas.I like the front lower valences/air dams if anyone has them.thanks
On my 04 4x4, on the 4.0 I had jba headers, AEM brute force intake, underdog udp's, bama engine programer and gibson dual sport catback. On the truck I put on skidplates, bilstien shocks, hella driving lights, BFG KO AT's 265/75-16 and bed side decals to give it that pre-runner look. "O YEAH", I also cranked the torsion bars to lift the front end a couple of inches which leveled the truck, also a detroit tru-track lsd. It performed great on and off the road. I have some pitures, but don't know how to post them, but you get the general idea. It looked like a pre-runner truck like you see at baja.
Yeah, bama is the bomb, the best mod I put on my truck as far as performance mods. It gained 14 hp at the wheels and 20 foot pounds. Also improved mpg a tad when I drove it right. If you want a hp bump that you can feel, get the bama programer, it's the best bang for the buck at 400 dollars. The headers were 600$, the catback was 370$, under drive pullies were 300$ and the intake was around 250$ and all of those together didn't = the HP of the bama. It's a stand alone mod, you don't need any other mod with bama to feel a big difference, but does also enhance other mods as well if you have them or plan on getting some. The headers were a complete waste of money as they do nothing on a 4.0 sohc engine except loose some lowend torque. Headers work better on the push rod 4.0 as the exhaust manifolds were more restrictive. However, the gibson catback was worth every penny as I loved that nice low rumble at idle and the growl when you spanked the skinny pedel. No real hp increase with a catback, but a great sound increase which makes it seem faster and sound better. The intake whisteled, sounded cool. "NOW", the under drive pullies did unleash some usable torque that you could feel. There kinda of pricey for the 4.0 because of the built in harmonic balancer, but it was worth the money for the benifit. So the real hp increases came from bama and the udp's, great sound came from the catback. Headers did nothing, intake whistled and growled under excelleration, I guess the intake was worth as well, but the headers were the most expensive and a complete waste of money.
Check out the pix under my profile, 4.88 Gears, Bama, mild exhaust upgrade, K & N - the bama tuning in for the gear and tire change made a huge difrence...I can't say enough good things about it -
I wasn't so much talking 4x mods as I was the engone mods I have done, and if you check the pix you could see the camper I installed as well. Raven makes a really nice top for Rangers -
Thanks Waves. This little 2.3 is something...just goes and goes without [knock on wood]
any problems.Dont want to get into the motor right now,but a turbo would be fun
For me the best engine mod that I did for my 93 supercab 4x4 was increasing the output by 1 liter and the number of cylinders by 2. I now have plenty of power with plenty of room to add more later.
Wait a minute fellows, we got this guy figured all wrong!!!! He doesn't want a fast ranger or a tough ranger, he wants a "barf barf", low rider or ricer ranger. I think he is interested in things like roll pans and valances, he just wants to sporty up his truck a little. I really didn't mean that you wanted a low rider or ricer, I just through that in there for fun. I'm sorry, but I won't be much help as I perfere fast 4x4's. However, a nice set of wheels and low profile tires can really make a truck, plus throw on a hard bed cover painted the same color as the truck, a long with a roll pan and front valance and your on your way to a nice sport truck. I have no pitures, just sugestions as mine have all been 4x4's. You can get a lot of great idea's from mini truck magazine and a lot of sport truck manufacture's advertise thier parts in there as well. Good luck with your project and keep us updated as to your progress as we love all rangers. Some of us do have trouble getting into low riders however, so we'll just call yours a sport truck ha ha. "Seriously", good luck with it. We kid alot and like to have fun on here at times!!!
