I mounted mine next to the pasenger side battery, if I remember there is a tab with 2 holes that I bolted a plate to then bolted the compressor to that.
I'm with "strokin6.0". Compressor and air storage tank, mounted on the outside of the passenger side frame rail. Also have large air horns mounted in the same area. No problems even while driving in snow, slush, or mud.
Heres a quick pic of mine on the passenger side frame rail:

mine is mounted to the driverside floor under the truck. Been there two years between this and my other truck I had before this one. Even with the harsh conditions with plowing snow it is still working so far. i kinda questioned it when ,punting it there but so far so good.
I mounted mine in the front of the bed. Put it on a piece of composite 'cause I had it in the garage so I can remove it if needed. Working out great so far...Brian
I have had mine on the drivers side frame rail for about 40,000 miles now. No problems, the only issue is the noise on that side. Mine maintaines 10-15psi automatically so if you go around a corner or something you hear the rattle of the compressor running. Other than that you could pretty much mount it anywhere.
