If its not one thing its another. When I picked up truck from shop noticed pass window switch acting like it had short luckly I was able to get window up,but now it doesnt work at all. What trouble shooting do I test first and is it very hard to put window motor in?
So what are your fuses saying for a start? Have you tested for power to the windows? Or even power to the master switch?
A multi-tester is more usefull then a socket set when doing electrical work.
You can get contact cleaner at Home Depot that is plastic safe. Clean the switch contacts with this. My wifes Plymouth is notorious for doing this. The cleaning helps alot. The best thing to do on American cars is to not buy a vehicle with any power windows or door locks. They use the lowest quality junk parts to assemble them.
Listen for the window relay clicking inside the door when you depress the window switch. You may have to get down by the door to hear it. If you hear the relay, your problem is probably mechanical, not electrical. It is a common problem for the gears to fail, especially in the older trucks. They are white plastic and crumble like bread crumbs. Kits are available at auto parts for repairs.jd
I've had problems with power windows on 2 Fords I've owned over the years. Both would occasionally get stuck in the 'up' position and not come back down. This would happen regardless of which switch (driver's or door affected) I tried. I took both motors apart & relubed 'em, it'd work for a while but the problem would reappear. What ended up working for me in the end was simply stopping the glass just a hair shy of fully closed when I 'rolled' it up. Never had another issue w/ either car after that.
Not sure if that would help u with your problem, but you might want to give it a try. You may not have to disassemble the motor to get it back down either. On my truck, sometimes it would go down when I'd flicked the switch on/ off intermittantly while driving around.
Installing a window motor usually isnt all that hard to do as long as you have some tools and can get the door panel off w/o cracking anything. The motor on my truck had a rivet I had to drill out, and a bolt I needed to hole saw through the inner door skin to access (easily anyway).
