New to the site along with the Ford Super Dutys. We (as in the family) just bought a 2002 F350 Lariat 4DR V10, very nice truck. Anyways after some poking around to get used to all of the bells and whistles we dicovered something. It has a KARR 4040 system installed in it. No idea what it is or the purpose of it...only thing that got us curious was a small black box with a red led attached to the fuse pannel. The LED is on 24/7 and we have no clue why. Me and my dad were going to disconect it but it looks like it is tied into a bunch of hot wires and who knows what else. So its staying for now. There is no "alarm" on the truck besides the panic button. Any help would be great!
I had one of those on my truck when I bought it, also an '02. It is not stock. It is also a very big P.I.A.!!! It was probably just the way it was setup but it would lock as soon as I shut the door, sometimes the keys would still be inside. The alarm would go off at random, probably set too sensitive. Most of the time the remote locks wouldn't work no matter how close you stood even with new batteries in the remote and if you tried opening the door with the key, the alarm would go off. I unplugged the "brain box" for it and followed the hot wires off of it and removed the fuse. I did not try to disconnect it from any harnesses, I did not want to mess up any wires I wasn;t supposed to. I got a used Ford remote and went back to using that
We don't have the remote for it, when we bought it had one stock key and the stock remote lock/unlock/panic button. So we'll trace down the right wire and pull the fuse. Thanks!
Some alarms, especially remote starts, can interrupt some wires. They will need to be reconnected for everything to work correctly. Make sure it doesn't interrupt the door switches or the starter wires.
It didn't with mine but good point. All I did was disconnect the "brain box" by unplugging the harness, that way if it does mess something up, then you can just plug it back in. In that case, take it into a reputable car audio shop in your area and have them remove it for you.
