Looking for advice on Shock Absorbers. I bought the truck used in Sep 2006. It is a early 1999 F350 Crew PS 6sp 2wd. Had CarQuest shock absorbers on it. I put Monroe Gas Magnums on it last summer. They seem to be shot already. What have you guys had success with? I was looking at Bilsteins and KYB and Rancho and Monroes again. Let me know what you think. I pull a 28' travel trailer a couple times/year. A 16' flatbed occasionally/ with a Bobcat on it. Rarely haul a load in the bed.
Im looking for the same advise. I bought my truck new, added a leveling kit, put 20,000 miles on it, and my factory shocks are shot. I guess the extra lift stretched out the shocks. Is there a shock you can buy designed just for trucks with leveling kits? 2007 F-250 Crew Cab 4X4 Deisel. Thanks for any advise.
Bilstiens are my first choice. Ride comfort is better than most.
For leveling kit's only, you will use the stock spec'd shock, there isn't enough travel difference until you reach 4". OE shock's aren't that great, Ford buys from the lowest bidder that meets their specifications. A lot of the other manufactures are in a price battle and don't let their product sell themselves.
Factory shocks are usually junk. Did your Monroe's come with a lifetime warranty?
The kind of roads you drive on and how many miles you drive will affect the life as much as pulling a load, maybe more so since there's more travel in the shock without a load to keep pressure in it.
Bilsteins seem to be the shock of choice around here. I just do the warranty swap on my Monroes every once in a while
