There's an internet company that I would like to warn everyone against, but I am not sure of the policies regarding such a post. I would like to put it here to warn other people, but I am not sure what I can, and can't, do. Any advice?
Part of it's probably my fault, because I thought I found a really good deal on an Extang bed cover...free tailgate seal, cleaner...free shipping...that's it. Come to find out, this company doesn't even have a warehouse; it takes your money, then calls the factory to have your order shipped. Just like the days before the internet. The website is very misleading about this, and other things. AFTER, I submit the order, and give my credit card number, the site/receipt says:
"Please be aware that tracking information will not be available for at least 3-4 business days. Please allow 7-10 Business days before inquiring about your order. Stock and availablity can change at any time."
I should have cancelled the order right then and there, but past experience has shown this to be a pain as well.
A week goes by and I call them...they give me a tracking number...for the accessories they did have on hand. I called them after two more days...still no word on the cover. The "customer service" rep did tell me that I could call Extang, if I so desired, at which time I became very upset, explained that's what customer service was for, that their company was terrible and misleading. Their excuse was that Extang had to "make" the cover before it could be sent. I responded by saying that Extang probably had several of these based on the large number of short bed Super Duty pickups on the road. I also called Jeg's (whom I should have gone with in the first place), one and a half weeks after placing the original order. They had 4 in stock, and could have had one at my house in 3 days...with free shipping. I told the company to cancel my order, and was told there would be a 15% restocking fee...which I guess makes sense if you have no warehouse of your own.
I have sent 4 emails to their customer service department, and have never recieved a response. They never sent a tracking number either. Finally, after 2 1/2 weeks I got my bed cover. I am very happy with it. It is an Extang Black Max. Extang was good about the shipping...Fedexed it here in 2 days. Had it not been for this lame company misrepresenting itself, everything would have been better.
I would like to post pictures, but for some reason I can't get a gallery going, but I really like the looks of this bedcover...should have ordered it from a different place.
Thanks for the heads-up on this company. You did a good job posting your experience. The good thing is you are happy with the product. We learn as we go.
We need to know what the company's name is so that others can avoid the same hassles you dealt with- as far as I know as long as you aren't outright bashing the company (which you aren't) there is no rule against posting their name on FTE.
It's 4 Wheel Online. If I'm out of line in any way, I would expect the moderator to delete the thread; but I don't think I've bashed the company. I have simply related a very poor shopping experience.
Thanks for allowing me to vent.
I have talked to a couple of other people who had the same experience...I should have talked to them first.
We all learn from our mistakes. And we learn from each others mistakes. Even though you went through h%ll, you can take some satifaction in the knowledge that you have let all of your FTE family know, and we will let our freinds know. Kinda snowballs from there!

I just read their Return Policy --- whew! Any more return/restocking fees and there are probably situations where the fees would add up to more than 100% of the original cost of the item!
Personally 2 1/2 weeks start to finish doesn't seem that bad to me. I have done dealings on the net that took alot longer. It would have been that long before I would even start wondering. But that's just me.
