My 86' 351W HO carbed engine stalls when given gas after a cold start. This happens mostly on a cold morning and only when in gear. It occurs until normal operating temperature is met. Sometimes it will also stall just by putting it in gear until it is up to normal temp. It happens the most when it is cold outside and the vehicle has sat for about 6 to 8 hours. Don't know what other info might help. Holley 4bbl carb, K/N airfilter, headers....
My first guess is that there is not enough choke, you also have 3* flange base gasket which have a habit of burning thru causing eng to be lean. I never found a part's store to have the correct pieces. They are all different andalso use a alum heat shield. Your ford dealer was alway's the place for correct item's.
I tried to put dual exh w/o catalitic conv .That was not the best thing to do. When trying to accelerate it would stumble. To much back presure releived causing it to temporaryly go lean.
Changed pump cam profile, accelerator pump noozle, tried different power valve(s) spring kit on secondaires.Bottom line--Gas mileage was less performance about same.
I am now trying to get a 351w-4v going in a 53 f100
