Well, I cancelled my ebay bid, did some more looking into ti and decided instead of running a DD to DD setup, which i'd then need to add a stablizing bearing too, I opted to eliminate the ragjoint and go with a splined U-joint to DD...then DD shaft to the DD Ujoint we had on had, this kills a few birds with one stone..
Don't have to spend bucks for a ragjoint and don't have spend bucks (and time) to fashion up a stabalizer.
Pretty sure there will be just enough DD shaft left off the GM one I have, so that'll save some coin too, if not I'll make a DD coupler out of the rest of the shaft for us to get by.
Sounds like your doing some pretty good engineering on Thumper. I like the way it's starting to look. Looks good and strong. Plus the angles are great imo.
I'm looking forward to seeing all your progress in person as soon as I can get over to your place.
Hopefully, that will be sooner than later.
Super Effort !!! Let us know if we can help out with a Thumper Project Day or something.
Kudo's to Summit on shipping...I ordered the steering joint around noon yesterday, and it showed up UPS about 5pm...soooo, got busy hacking up some stuff and fitting it in.
This is our temporary steering solution...wil need to get a solid piece of DD shaft...about 16 inches or so, to firm things up:
At least it's steerable now...just gotta figure out how to fit the Alternator bracket back on...
I figured out the Alt bracket after an hour of searching thorugh the 385 fourm, ordered a rocker arm kit from AZ, should be here mid-next week or so, in the mean time I'll adjust all the others and get it ready for the new one, get the starter on and see about wiring a few things up to get ready to fire the engine, then set the rear X member in place and drill a few holes to get it ready to mount, hopefully we'll be in good shap with the angles, I found some info on parts for u-joints for "extreme" angles, which we might need for the front, but we'll see whent he time comes. Good thing is Summittakes paypal, so if I can't find anything on Ebay, I don't have to dip into the family funds...just have to sell more junk...er good stuff...on Ebay
