The 03 Edge I bought had a bad power window motor on the passenger side. The dealership replaced it before we finished the deal. Today I opened the windows on the way home from work. When the window was fully open I heard a thump, and didn't think much of it. A few beers later while watching the draft, it starts raining. My dumb butt left the windows open. Needless to say, the f****** passenger side window won't go up. My wonderful wife helped me move everything out of the way so I could park the Ranger in the garage. I pulled the panel off and forced the window up. The window worked fine until I heard the same thump. Then the window went back to it's pre-purchase state. Fortunatly, the dealership says they will take care off it Monday. Sorry, I'm just venting.
curious. Does it go to the bottom of the range of motion and then not come back up? Will it go part way down and then back up, but just not return from the bottom? I ask because mine does the same thing.
Everything worked fine until the thump, Once I forced the window up. I tried it a couple times then the window wouldn't close. It will open, but I have to "help" the window close., but yes it will completely open, but will not close without "help".
It almost sounded similar, mine will get to a point where it will "fall off" and not come back up. The previous owner put a piece of wood in there to keep it from going all the way down. Its on my list, but I have not gotten there yet so I dont have any information for you. The thump part sounded like what mine does when it drops off the bottom or whatever.
Wondering out loud here: do they still use a wound spring on the regulators to help the motor in lifting the window? Back when I did bodywork (many years ago) almost every power window had some type of assist spring to help raise the window, usually wound on the regulator. Any chance the thump was the spring giving up the ghost? Maybe that's why the shop said you would need a new regulator.
