Wife said she was driving the Excursion (V-10) and came to a stoplight and realized that it had died apparently as she was slowing to a stop. After she realized that she had to put it in park, it started right back up.
She said that the CEL was on before she cranked it up. The CEL did not stay on after it started back up.
She drove into town, picked up a BD cake, came home. No more troubles. Is this a well known issue?
I've heard of the 7.3psd and bad CPS. But, this is a V-10.
It could be a CPS or a bad IAC. We need more facts. How many miles are on the truck and whats the year? BTW i had a bad CPS on my v-10 and the RPM tach went NUTS with me only giving very little gas. And when i mean nuts, when ever i gave it gas, the tach would go from 1500 to 2100 to lets say 1700 and back up to like 2300. So the OP said it just "died" which leads me to believe that it isnt the CPS.
The CEL was on cause the motor stalled. It cleared as soon as it started right?
Sounds like the IAC may be getting gummed up possibly. How many miles are on it? Has it been taking a lil longer to start at all recently?
A new high quality motorcraft part can be found online for about $70, they really arent worth trying to clean in my opinion. Easy at home replacement if your mechanically inclined at all.

I cleaned out my IAC 1 month ago and it has worked awesome. I used brake cleaner.

Does it idle rough in the rain? or when its moist out like fog?
This happened in my '94 Bronco in traffic on the highway. Coming to a stop, it just died. Started right back up, never did it again, still going strong, 10 years and 100K miles later (had about 125K on it at the time).
