Rancho Shocks

Went and spent $122.00 on 2 rancho shocks today. Got home there the same model but one is a newer one of the same model and thus has a newer sticker, not a big deal. haha. Well here is my concern and question. The shocks are gas but when I took them out of the box you pull on the stock and when you let go they stay in that position. Im use to when you push on the shock and let go it goes all the way back out instead of staying to the position to where you let go of it. Are both shocks bad or is this the way the Rancho brand shocks are?

I would take them back. Most all gas shocks have a plastic strap on them to hold them down in the box. They should extend by themselves. I have run Rancho & I now have Pro Comp 9000.

I have them installed on my truck, they seem to hold the rear end stiffer. Neither of them had the strap holding them down both boxes were sealed shut also. I'm thinking that is how they are suppose to be.
Although I still would like more input.

Got my DJM drop shocks the other day and they have straps holding them compressed in the box and they spring back when I pull the straps off them.

I assume you got the RS5000 shocks. I had them on a 79 F-150 with the quad shock front end. Those shocks rode terribly on the street, I felt every bump in the road. They performed quite well off road though. I will never buy them again, but I would like to try the RS9000's on my F-250 since they are adjustable. They just cost an awful lot.

I had a set of Rancho 9000's on my old 90 K-5 Blazer 6 or 7 years ago and it rode like a buckboard wagon. I set them in all of the positions and it never made a bit of difference. It rode so hard that it broke off the rear shock mounts 3 different times. I will never buy a set of Rancho's again.

I would've taken those shocks back and gotten some Monroe's but since you already have them on your truck, I'm sure you can't take them back now.
