Lol Well I wouldnt mind seeing the ranger diesel myself either. I think its possible with a small older 4 banger mechanical diesel. The trick is finding a decent one thats light enough, then being able to attach it to a tranny that would work.
I personally wouldnt waste my time on any diesel engines unless you need it for the pulling power. The complexity of the modern diesel engine, the emissions stuff required to make it burn clean, the price of the engine option itself, the price of diesel being more than gas, the poor mileage garnered by having to burn fuel to push the exhaust through that particulate filter, and the cost to maintain all that under the hood make me chuckle when I hear people still beleiving the fallacy that the diesel engine is the answer to their dreams in terms of lower cost to run!!!
Just think of an old mechanical diesel engine Warren. Theres no emissions add ons to worry about, the mileage would (should) still be high, while producing some power still.
So far running a diesel 3/4 ton truck is no cheaper for me then a 3/4 gas, but its not more expensive either. The price of diesel the other day in saskatoon at the flying j was 122 a liter, gas was 127 a liter. Save a little bit on the price of fuel and the generally better fuel economy.
Im not sure what else costs more. The oil changes might be a few bucks more. If you have a 6 liter your head gaskets will be alot more ( just jokes!!) I have no spark plugs to replace, and havent went through a glow plug(yet!!) Fuel filters arent that expensive and both trucks would have them.
I havent found my diesel that much, if any at all, more to maintain yet. The oil costs a few bucks more and the filter costs a few bucks more but it really doesnt put a huge dent in the pocket. Least it hasnt, yet!
