I had a cracked head to swap out. So I did a port & polish on the replacement & other side, So if I can get more gains on the cheap while I'm here sounds good to me. Where's a good place to find them?
Sorry, kinda new to PCs, IIRC??? Also double check how? Because, I've found a set cheap, But, they say that they are not self aligning. Is that a problem?
They are probably the stud mount type if they are not self aligning. Your heads will use "pedestal mount" rocker arms, so it is much preferable to use that style of replacement rocker arms. Crane cams made the roller ones that Ford used on the 90s Mustang Cobras. I think they had a F3ZE casting number on them. They are available from Crane or Ford Racing Parts.
1.73 is the stock ratio for Cleveland (canted valve) style heads, also the 460 and 429.
From that Summit link I see the Crane 1.7 roller rocker arms are marketed under the "Energizer" brand and are a very economical $180. They should include the pedestals and bolts.
But I see now that the Summit listing says: Self-Aligning: No
That's pretty strange, as the pedestals do align them. So perhaps the ones you found are these very ones, but listed as non-self aligning? Sorry I didn't pick this up earlier, I didn't bother reading the details in the Summit catalog rocker listing.
Those are what are commonly referred to as "rail rockers" because of the tabs that align on the valve stem. This system was used until about 1978 I think, despite the Summit site saying they fit up to 1989.
Those rocker arms you are interested in are only roller tip, full roller rockers are preferable if you can get them for your engine.
