ok, i have an 81 302 and i mated it to a 79 C4. this means i need the 157 tooth flexplate and a 50 oz weight right? the cheapest on i can find is from B&M thru summit, anyone know of a cheaper one? thanks
dave
This is a gray area to me. Some people say the weight changed around 81-82. Some people and books say it started in 85. Make sure you get it right or it will vibrate. Do you have the original flywheel/flexplate that came with that engine? You may be able to take it to a machine shop and they could tell you what weight it has.
PAW (Parts Auto Warehouse) has the cheapest new flexplates around. They're about a third of what you would pay for a B&M and unless you do some serious racing, they work great.
Dave,
What is the diameter of the bolt pattern for the Torque Converter studs on your C4? 10-1/2" fits the small 157 tooth flexplate. 11-7/16" fits the large 164 tooth flexplate. I would surprised if that tranny took the small flexplate.
Adios,
Brett
