Ok guys. I am stumped. I just rebuilt my 351W. Today on the way into work at a stop light the trucks idle went eractic then stalled. I tried to start it up again but no luck. I pushed my pile to the nearest parking lot and popped the hood. I had fuel in the filter and bowls. I pulled the coil wire off and checked for spark. What could cause it to not want to start again? Flooded, maybe? I had to make some adjustments to the needle and seats (shot fuel out of the float level check plug port when removed), fuel/air mixture (was running rich), and idle the other day. I had a high flow mechanical Carter pump on. I opted for the stock one. I did notice the fuel vapor was heavy when I pulled the air cleaner off though.
Also I did notice the other day that I can run and drive the truck with the fuel/air mixture screw turned all the way in. I have a back up carb I just rebuilt but I really don't want to cannibalize the vac. secondary diaphram or the needle and seat hardware. Any clue why it would do this? In the mean time I am going to change carbs. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.
Well the problem is solved. I found rust flakes in my fuel filter. Not just a few but completely packed. I popped the cap off fo my tank and looked in. The bottom is covered with rust. Now I have to get a new fuel tank. I already went through the pain of removing the tank and draining/flushing it. First time I got roughly 7 pounds of crap out of it. Well thanks.
